How We Came To Offer North America's Premier Architectural Shade Solutions

Many people ask how we came to be in the business of custom-made awnings, canopies and exterior window shades. After careers in technology and corporate consulting, we purchased a home that had extensive south and west facing decks and windows.  We loved the decks and the views - perfect for indoor-outdoor entertaining and living.   However, we found that we could never get the shade coverage on the deck we wanted with umbrellas.  For most of the year, the decks were cooking in the sun.  Even worse, when the sun hit the view windows we loved so much, it turned our house into an oven.

During our travels to Europe we had many pleasant experiences enjoying meals and drinks at nice restaurants and hotels under the shade of an elegant retractable awning.  So, we began to look for retractable awnings and canopies here in the U.S. - and were horribly disappointed.    

Most available retractable deck and patio awnings sold here were poorly designed and constructed with low quality materials. They also lacked the elegance that we expected.   They simply did not provide an effective and stylish sun shading system we had experienced in Europe.

We wanted to avoid the hassle of manually cranking a retractable awning open and closed and the worry of accidentally leaving an awning open and susceptible to wind or rain damage. We also wanted to take advantage of the "green" energy savings that awnings provide every day.  We wanted a motorized, automated, and sensor-controlled retractable awning solution suitable to our indoor-outdoor lifestyle.

Ultimately, we found what we were looking for in Germany. Markilux® products combine state-of-the-art technologies, German engineering and classic, European-styled retractable awnings to create a fully automated, beautiful and durable solution. We were impressed with how the awnings retracted into a stylish cassette holder that could be mounted on the wall or on the roof. Plus, we knew the superior quality and elegant design of Markilux products would clearly add value to any home, business, or commercial building.

We realized that if we had so much trouble finding high quality, elegant sun shading solutions here in the United States that other people probably had the same problem.  We're big believers in quality engineering, elegant style, and the green living benefits that Mariliux products provide - and we wanted to share that with others.
